Fitted Crop Tops in Rib, Jersey and Stretch Knits
Crop tops are a fabric-led product. A 2×1 rib behaves very differently from a cotton-spandex jersey or a baby tee knit, and each calls for its own pattern. We cut them fitted, structured or draped, and work from 50 pieces with a sample before bulk.
- Rib, jersey and baby-tee knits
- Cotton-spandex stretch recovery
- Fitted, strappy and long-sleeve styles
- Private label from 50 pcs
Start with the knit, then the pattern
Unlike cropped tees, which are usually boxy, crop tops are typically close fitting and rely on stretch. That makes fabric choice the first decision. A 2×1 cotton rib at 200 to 240 GSM hugs the body and holds shape. A cotton-spandex jersey at 180 to 200 GSM gives a smoother line. A baby jersey at 150 GSM is light and soft.
Because the fabric stretches, the pattern is cut smaller than the body measurement, with negative ease planned into the spec. We set this per fabric, since rib and jersey behave differently. Our sample stage confirms stretch recovery, so the top does not bag at the hem or neckline after wear.
Styles go beyond the standard short sleeve. We produce strappy tanks, square-neck tops, long-sleeve crops, tie-front and ruched designs. Each style has its own construction details, and we send a technical drawing for approval so you know what will be built before sampling.

Fit and finish details
Planned negative ease
Fitted tops are patterned smaller than body measurements to use fabric stretch. We specify ease per knit, so rib, jersey and spandex blends each fit as intended across the full size run.
Stretch recovery
Elastane content of 3 to 8% helps the top return to shape after wear. We test recovery on the sample and adjust the blend if the neckline or hem shows relaxation.
Seam and strap strength
Straps, ties and ruching are reinforced with bar tacks and stabilized seams where strain is highest. Clear elastic can be added at necklines and hems for a snug, stable finish.
Length and rise
Crop length is specified from high point shoulder, usually 35 to 45 cm for fitted styles. We check it against high-waist and low-waist bottoms to ensure the proportions work in your range.
Decorating stretch knits
Tell us your fabric, style and artwork. We will send a quote, a technical drawing and a mockup. Minimums start at 50 pieces per style and colour.
Flexible print methods
Stretch fabrics need decoration that moves with them. We recommend water-based ink, DTF or soft-stretch transfers, all of which flex without cracking. Heavy plastisol is less suitable for fitted crops.
Small embroidery
Chest and hem embroidery can look refined on a rib knit. We use a lightweight stabilizer and moderate stitch count so the thread does not restrict stretch or ripple the surface.
Rhinestone accents
Crystal accents work well on cotton-spandex when kept to a moderate area. Large stone fields can restrict stretch, so we suggest placing them on lower-stretch zones.
Labels and tags
Printed inside labels are comfortable on a fitted top. We can also add small woven labels at the side seam or hem, positioned so they do not show when the top is worn.
Who orders this
Crop tops are central to women’s fashion, dancewear and fitness lines, and are increasingly used in unisex streetwear. Buyers care about stretch recovery, size consistency and how the garment sits at the waistline.
- Women’s fashion brands adding crop basics to their ranges
- Boutique and online retailers building private label lines
- Dance studios and performance teams ordering stage tops
- Fitness and yoga brands extending into casual wear
- Festival and event merchandise sellers targeting young buyers
Care & durability
Wash cold on a gentle cycle, and avoid fabric softener, which can reduce elastane recovery. Dry flat or tumble dry low. Do not wring, as this can stretch the neckline.
Stretch knits keep their shape well with gentle washing. Reinforced seams and quality elastane help crops keep their fit, and prints designed for stretch resist cracking.
Crop top questions, answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
Which knit is best for a crop top?
Rib gives a fitted, structured, textured look. Cotton-spandex jersey is smoother and good for printing. Baby jersey is light and soft. We can send swatches and advise based on your style and customer.
Can you make strappy or tie-front crops?
Yes. We produce straps, ties, ruching and square necklines. Each has specific construction needs, and we send a technical drawing before sampling so you can approve the details and any trims.
How do you handle sizing on stretch fabric?
We build negative ease into the pattern and check the fit on a sample. Because stretch varies by fabric, we do not reuse one pattern across knits. We also give you measurements with stretch ranges.
Will prints crack on stretch fabric?
Not if the method is chosen carefully. Water-based ink, DTF and stretch transfers are designed to flex. We avoid heavy plastisol on fitted crops and test stretch on samples before production.
What is the minimum order?
We start at 50 pieces per style and colour for most crop tops. Specialty fabrics may have different minimums, and we will confirm when you send your inquiry along with details of fabric and decoration.
