Varsity Jackets Cut for Streetwear and Fashion Labels
Varsity and letterman jackets share a DNA, but varsity is the version fashion brands reach for first. We build ours with wool-blend bodies, PU or leather sleeves, snap fronts, striped rib trims and satin linings, then decorate them with embroidery, patches and appliques. Minimum order is 50 pieces.
- Wool-blend body, PU or leather sleeves
- Snap front with striped rib trim
- Cut for fashion, not only for teams
- Appliques, patches and embroidery
Varsity jackets are about proportion and detail, not only heritage
Where a letterman jacket tends to be traditional and roomy, a fashion-led varsity is often cut shorter and boxier, with a slightly dropped shoulder and lighter materials. We offer wool-blend melton at 20 to 24 oz for the full classic feel, or a lighter 16 to 18 oz wool-polyester for a more wearable weight. Sleeves are PU or leather, in one color or color-blocked.
Rib knit collars and cuffs carry stripes that you can specify in one to three colors. Snaps are usually 5 to 7 in number, in matte black, antique brass or nickel, with a tape reinforcement behind. Linings are quilted satin or plain polyester, with an inside pocket or two. Hem bands are knitted in a stripe that matches the collar, which is a detail that gives the jacket its identity.
Varsity jackets are a strong canvas for decoration. Back panels can carry large embroidery or appliques, sleeves can carry stripes and numbers, and the chest can host a monogram or crest. Because fashion brands care about hand-feel, we show you fabric and PU swatches during sampling, and will adjust the sleeve thickness or lining to suit the retail price.

Details that make a varsity jacket stand out
Snap closure options
Snaps can be matte, polished or color-enameled, with cut-and-sew placket reinforcement behind them. We select snap size and spacing for the jacket length, and test them for pull strength.
Contrast sleeves and panels
We color-block the sleeves, shoulders and body for a distinct identity. PU in matte, glossy or pebbled finishes changes the personality, while wool sleeves give a full-wool alternative.
Printed and quilted linings
A custom-printed satin lining turns the inside into a branded reveal. Quilting patterns can be diamond, channel or plain, and the fill weight is adjusted for the climate you sell in.
Fashion-led proportions
We adjust sleeve length, shoulder width and body length for your target market. A cropped version suits women's lines, and a longer cut suits menswear. Fit samples are made before bulk.
Decoration for varsity jackets
Tell us your quantity, colors, decoration and target date. We reply with a quote, a mockup and a sample plan, usually within one working day.
Large back embroidery
Back panels can carry detailed embroidery 25 to 35 cm wide. We digitize in layers so the stitch density does not make the wool body stiff, and use a backing sheet to keep the fabric flat.
Appliques and chenille
Felt appliques with embroidered borders give a layered look. Chenille patches add texture and a retro feel. Both are sewn onto the body, and we test the stitching so patches do not lift at the edges.
Sleeve and chest details
Sleeve numbers, stripes and names are produced in tackle twill or embroidery. A small chest monogram or crest adds a premium touch without overwhelming the design.
Woven labels and hang-tags
Every jacket can have a woven neck label, a care label and a hang-tag. We attach labels to the inner collar and side seam, and prepare the jackets for retail with polybags and hangers.
Who orders this
Varsity jackets sell in two lanes: fashion brands use them for statement drops and collaborations, while schools and clubs choose them for team and event wear. Quantity varies from boutique runs of 50 to large team orders.
- Streetwear labels building a seasonal outerwear capsule
- Fashion brands collaborating with artists or sports teams
- Student unions ordering jackets for graduating classes
- Sports clubs and societies issuing member jackets
- Retail chains sourcing private-label heritage outerwear
Care & durability
Dry clean wool-blend jackets where possible. PU sleeves can be wiped with a damp cloth, and leather can be conditioned once a year. Store on a wide hanger and avoid long exposure to sunlight, which can fade colors.
Snaps are tested for repeated opening, and the rib trims have elastane for recovery. Sleeve and body seams are double stitched with reinforcement at the underarm, so the jacket handles daily wear.
Varsity jacket questions answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
How is varsity different from letterman?
In our range, letterman jackets follow the traditional school pattern with chenille letters, while varsity jackets are fashion-led with flexible fits and fabrics. The construction is similar, but proportions and decoration are different.
Can I choose a lighter wool weight?
Yes. A 16 to 18 oz wool-polyester gives a lighter body that suits mild climates and layering. It drapes better than heavy melton, though it feels less structured. We send swatches to compare.
Will PU sleeves crack over time?
Good-quality PU with a polyester backing resists cracking in normal use, but cheaper grades can. We use a coated PU with a fabric base and test it for flex endurance. Leather sleeves are another option.
Can I print a pattern on the lining?
Yes. We sublimate the satin lining fabric before the jacket is sewn. Patterns, logos and tonal prints are possible. The print is permanent, though large areas need a minimum yardage, which we confirm.
What is the lead time for a sample?
A sample usually takes 7 to 10 working days after you approve the mockup. After sample approval, bulk runs take 10 to 15 working days. We keep you informed with weekly production updates.
