Insulated Puffer Jackets Engineered Around Fill Weight
A puffer jacket is a shell, a fill and a baffle pattern working together. We build ours with 20D to 50D nylon or polyester shells, 150 to 300 g recycled-polyester or duck-down fill, and baffles cut to your design. Hooded, funnel-neck, cropped and long styles are available. Minimum order is 50 pieces.
- 20D to 50D nylon or polyester shell
- 150 to 300 g synthetic or down fill
- Custom baffle widths
- Hooded, cropped and long cuts
Warmth comes from fill weight, loft and baffle design
The shell fabric sets the look and the weather resistance. A 20D nylon ripstop is light and packable, 30D to 40D nylon taffeta is a balanced everyday choice, and 50D polyester with a durable water-repellent finish suits workwear and winter retail. All shells can be coated with PU or laminated for wind resistance, and sealed seams are an option.
Fill is measured in grams per square meter. A 150 g fill suits mild climates and layering, 200 g works for typical winter wear, and 250 to 300 g is for severe cold. We use recycled-polyester fill with a soft, down-like loft, or 80/20 or 90/10 duck down at 550 to 700 fill power for premium lines. Synthetic fill keeps warmth when damp, which is a practical advantage.
Baffles are the stitched channels that hold fill in place. Narrow horizontal baffles of 6 to 8 cm give the classic puffer look, while wide baffles of 12 to 15 cm look bolder. Box-quilting or sewn-through stitching is cheaper, but baffled construction with internal walls avoids cold spots. We show baffle layouts in your mockup and adjust them to match your preferred silhouette.

What goes into a BERMGOODS puffer
Controlled fill weights
Fill is weighed per panel before sewing, not poured freely, so each jacket carries the same insulation. This keeps warmth consistent and prevents lumpy baffles after washing.
Baffle pattern choices
Horizontal, vertical, diamond and chevron patterns change the look and the way fill moves. We select the pattern with your silhouette in mind and test it for cold spots at the seams.
Weather-ready shells
DWR finishes shed light rain and snow, while PU coatings and taped seams add protection. Zips are storm-flapped, and cuffs have elastic or hook-and-loop closure to block drafts.
Pockets and closures
Zipped hand pockets, inner chest pockets and a double-slider main zip are standard. We can add snap storm flaps, chin guards and adjustable hood cords to meet your needs.
Decorating puffer jackets

Embroidery on quilted fabric
We place embroidery on a flat zone between baffles or on the sleeve, using a light stitch count to avoid collapsing the loft. Larger designs are worked before quilting so the fill stays full.
Rubber and woven patches
Silicone patches suit nylon shells because they do not need heat and are waterproof. Woven badges on the chest or sleeve give a retail feel. Placement avoids the stitched channels.
Heat transfer and small prints
Reflective or matte heat transfers can mark the sleeve or hem with minimal bulk. Screen printing on nylon needs specialized ink, so we suggest transfers for most puffer jackets.
Custom zips, pullers and labels
Branded zip pullers, interior woven labels and printed care labels help your jacket feel finished. Matte or glossy metal pullers and tonal tapes can be matched to your color palette.
Who orders this
Puffers are core outerwear for streetwear, outdoor and uniform programs. Brands build them as seasonal hero pieces, while corporate and hospitality buyers order them in plain colors with a small logo for staff working outside.
- Streetwear brands with a winter hero product
- Outdoor retailers adding mid-priced insulation
- Corporate teams equipping outdoor staff
- Schools and clubs ordering winter team wear
- Private-label chains buying large seasonal runs
Care & durability
Many synthetic puffers can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, then tumble dried on low with clean tennis balls to restore loft. Down-filled versions need a down wash. Close all zips before washing.
Shell fabrics are tested for down-proofing and seam slippage. Baffles are bar tacked at stress points, and the fill is treated to resist clumping, so the jacket keeps its loft season after season.
Puffer jacket questions answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
What fill weight should I choose?
For mild winters or layering, 150 g is sufficient. For typical winter use, choose 200 g, and for heavy cold, 250 to 300 g. We can provide samples with different fills so you can compare warmth and bulk.
Can you use down instead of synthetic?
Yes. We offer duck or goose down at 80/20 or 90/10 ratios with 550 to 700 fill power. Down is lighter for its warmth but costs more and needs more careful care. We can discuss responsible sourcing options.
Will the jacket be waterproof?
A DWR finish makes it water-resistant, not fully waterproof. For heavier protection, we add PU coating, laminated shells and taped seams. We recommend a test sample if your market faces heavy rain or snow.
How do you prevent down or fill leaking?
We use down-proof shell fabrics with tight weave, and fine needles in sewing. Seams are checked for leakage, and any problem areas are reinforced. Synthetic fill is less prone to leaking.
Can I choose the baffle width?
Yes. We build baffles from 6 to 15 cm and can mix widths. Each affects look and warmth distribution. We show baffle diagrams in the mockup and can adjust them before sampling.
