Bomber Jackets From Flight Jacket Roots to Souvenir Satin
The bomber is a short, rib-trimmed jacket with decades of range, from the military MA-1 to glossy souvenir satin. We build bombers in nylon twill, polyester satin, wool blends and cotton canvas, with rib knit collars, cuffs and hems, zipped fronts and optional sleeve pockets. Minimum order is 50 pieces.
- MA-1, satin and canvas variants
- Rib knit collar, cuffs and hem
- Lightweight to mid-weight fills
- Embroidery and souvenir graphics
The bomber works because the rib trims frame a simple body
A bomber is defined by its silhouette: a straight, short body that blouses slightly over a rib hem, with a rib collar and cuffs. Rib is made from wool-acrylic or cotton-elastane at around 400 to 500 GSM, and its recovery matters more than any other detail, because a sagging hem ruins the shape. We select rib with high elastane content and test it before bulk.
Body fabrics set the style. Nylon twill at 70D to 100D with a light polyester fill gives the classic MA-1 flight look, with an orange lining available as a nod to the original. Polyester satin in a glossy or matte finish is used for the souvenir jacket. Wool-blend and cotton canvas bombers suit autumn collections and have a more rugged feel.
Fill is light, usually 60 to 120 g, or the jacket may be unlined for spring. Details include an inner chest pocket, sleeve utility pocket with zip, a brass or matte zipper, and a pen slot. We can add embroidered dragons, tigers, city names or flight patches, and place them on the back, chest or sleeve, with samples made for approval.

High-recovery rib trim
Collar, cuffs and hem use elastane-rich rib knit that returns to shape after stretching. Rib colors can be matched or contrasted to the body, with stripes in one to three colors.
Flight jacket detailing
Zipped sleeve pockets, reversible orange linings and ribbed utility tabs echo the original MA-1. We produce authentic details or simplify them for fashion lines.
Light insulation
A 60 to 120 g polyester fill gives the bomber warmth without bulk. Quilting patterns and a satin lining feel smooth over knitwear, and the jacket remains light enough for everyday wear.
Reversible builds
Two-sided bombers combine satin on one side and nylon or wool on the other. A well-built reversible jacket has hidden seams and a single main zip that works from both faces.

Souvenir embroidery
Dragons, tigers, maps and text embroidered across the back give the satin bomber its famous look. We digitize in multiple layers with metallic and shiny threads for depth.
Chest and sleeve patches
Woven, chenille or embroidered patches on the chest and sleeve give the jacket a military or varsity feel. Patch placement is checked on the sample before bulk.
Screen print and DTF
On nylon and satin we can print logos or graphics with specialized inks or DTF transfers. We test adhesion and washing before production, as slippery surfaces demand careful setup.
Printed linings and labels
A printed lining adds a surprise on opening the jacket. Woven neck labels and printed care labels complete the retail finish, and we can add custom zipper pullers.
Who orders this
Bombers sell across fashion, uniform and merchandise categories. Streetwear labels use them as a staple, bands and events produce souvenir satin versions, and clubs and companies order them as a distinctive uniform jacket.
- Streetwear labels developing a core outerwear piece
- Bands and event brands producing souvenir satin jackets
- Clubs and societies ordering member jackets
- Hospitality and aviation companies for staff outerwear
- Retail buyers sourcing private-label seasonal bombers
Care & durability
Nylon bombers can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, while satin and wool blends are better dry cleaned. Hang to dry and avoid high heat. Embroidered souvenir jackets should be washed inside out or cleaned professionally.
Rib trims are stitched with stretch thread, and zip tapes are reinforced. We test the jacket for seam strength and elasticity, so it retains its shape through repeated wear.
Bomber jacket questions answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
What is the difference between a bomber and an MA-1?
MA-1 is a specific military bomber with a nylon shell, orange lining and sleeve pocket. A bomber is the wider category. We can build an authentic MA-1 style or a freer fashion interpretation.
Can I get a satin bomber with embroidery on the back?
Yes. Satin bombers with large back embroidery are among our most requested items. We stabilize the fabric and use a lighter stitch to avoid puckering, then test on a spare panel.
How do you keep the rib from sagging?
We choose a high-elastane rib, knit at the correct density, and sew it with a stretch seam. After sampling we check recovery after repeated stretching. We can adjust width and depth to suit the fit.
Is a bomber warm enough for winter?
A standard bomber suits mild to cool weather. For winter, we increase fill to 120 g or add a wool-blend body. Layering underneath is also easy because the cut is short and roomy.
Can I order a reversible bomber?
Yes. Reversible bombers pair two fabrics, such as satin and nylon. They cost more and use more fabric, but offer two looks. Seams are hidden, and zips are double-faced.
