Shrinkage planned in
Cotton shrinks most during the wash. We pre-wash fabric, cut with the final dimensions in mind, and measure finished shorts against your spec sheet so the size you order is the size that arrives.
Reinforced stress points
Pocket corners and the crotch seam are bar-tacked or double stitched. Washing stresses stitching, so we use polyester-core thread that survives the process and the years of wear afterwards.
Waistband that holds
Elasticated waistbands with a flat drawcord, metal or printed eyelets, and an inner stitch line keep the fit stable after washing. Cord ends can be dipped, tipped, or branded.

Puff print adds raised texture on the thigh or hem. Because the garment is washed first, ink sits on a stable, pre-shrunk surface, which reduces cracking. Water-based and plastisol options are both available.

Care & durability

Is the wash done on the garment or the fabric?
On the finished garment. Shorts are sewn first, then washed, which creates natural variation around seams and pockets. Fabric washing is flatter and cheaper but looks less authentic, so we reserve it for specific requests.
How consistent will a bulk order look?
Every piece will be unique, but within a range we agree in advance. We approve a wash standard on a sample, keep a recipe record, and inspect each batch against the sample before dispatch. Reorders follow the same recipe.
Can I decorate before the wash?
Some methods survive washing, such as embroidery with polyester thread, but most artwork looks best applied after. We advise on sequence per design so print edges and thread colours stay sharp.
What colours work best with acid wash?
Black, charcoal, navy, olive and denim blue show the contrast best. Pale colours fade subtly. We can overdye a base before washing for deeper tones, and send colour cards so you can decide before committing.
