Full-Colour Artwork on Soft Cotton, Any Run Size
DTG print t-shirts are the right call when your artwork has gradients, photography or dozens of colours that would be costly to separate for screens. We print water-based inks straight into combed cotton, so the hand stays soft. Order a single piece for print-on-demand, or run 50 pieces and up for a drop.
- Photo-grade colour detail
- 1 piece print-on-demand
- Soft water-based ink hand
- Low minimums from 50 pcs
A tee built for detailed artwork
Direct-to-garment printing works like an inkjet for fabric. A pretreated shirt sits on a platen, and the printer lays down water-based pigment ink in a single pass, including a white underbase when the shirt is dark. There are no screens, no colour limits and no setup fee per colour, which is why it suits illustrated, photographic and short-run work.
The blank matters as much as the printer. We run DTG on 100% combed ringspun cotton at 180 to 200 GSM, because a smooth, tight-spun surface takes ink evenly and shows fine lines cleanly. Open-end or slubby yarns tend to look patchy under small text, so we steer detailed artwork away from them.
For brands, the real advantage is flexibility. You can launch ten designs at 50 pieces each instead of committing to one design at 500. Print-on-demand partners can send us orders at 1 piece, and our free mockup team will check your file resolution and placement before anything is printed.

What you get with every DTG run
Unlimited colour range
Gradients, shadows and photographic detail print in one pass. Artwork is reproduced in CMYK plus white, so a 40-colour illustration costs the same to set up as a one-colour logo.
Light, breathable hand
Water-based inks soak into the cotton rather than sitting on top as a plastisol film. The print stays soft and flexible, which matters on lighter 180 GSM shirts worn in warm weather.
White underbase control
On black and navy shirts we print a white base layer first, then colour on top. We tune the underbase density per file so brights stay bright without a stiff patch.
Fast, low-risk testing
Because there are no screens to make, a new design can move from approved mockup to printed sample quickly. That makes DTG a sensible way to test a graphic before scaling.
Placement, sizing and finishing options
Tell us about your artwork, quantities and shirt colours. Our team will reply with a quote, a free mockup and a recommendation on blank weight. Minimums start at 50 pieces, or 1 piece for print-on-demand.
Print size and position
Standard front and back placements go up to roughly A3, and we can print sleeves, neck and hem hits as well. We confirm placement in a mockup, measured from the collar seam, so every size lines up consistently.
Dark garment printing
Black, charcoal, forest and burgundy blanks take a white underbase. We recommend a slightly bolder artwork treatment on these shirts, because very fine white lines can lose contrast against the base colour.
Labels and tags
Beyond the print, we can add printed neck labels, woven labels or hang tags so the shirt reads as your product. Tear-away neck prints are also available for a cleaner collar finish.
Hybrid decoration
DTG pairs well with a small embroidered chest logo or a screen-printed back hit. We often print the detailed art with DTG and use a spot screen print for a flat brand colour.
Who orders this
DTG print tees suit buyers who need variety more than volume. Many of our customers are small brands working with limited cash, or print shops adding a white-label production partner. They get detailed results without paying for screens on every new design.
- Streetwear brands launching limited-edition graphic drops
- Print-on-demand stores needing a reliable 1-piece fulfilment partner
- Artists and illustrators selling photographic or painted artwork
- Event organizers who need small batches of themed shirts
- Agencies producing short-run promotional tees with detailed logos
Care & durability
Turn garments inside out and wash cold with similar colours. Tumble dry low or hang dry, and avoid ironing directly on the print. If you do iron, use the reverse side or a pressing cloth.
Water-based DTG prints are durable for everyday wear, and properly cured prints hold up well past 50 home washes. Expect very gradual softening of colour over time, which many customers consider part of the look, particularly on heather blanks.
DTG print questions, answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
What file format and resolution do you need for DTG?
We prefer a transparent PNG at 300 DPI at final print size, or a layered vector file. Low-resolution images can be upscaled, but fine detail will not return. Send what you have and our mockup team will flag any problems before production, at no cost.
Will the print feel heavy on a dark shirt?
On dark shirts the white underbase adds some weight, but water-based ink keeps it flexible. We reduce underbase density in light areas of the artwork and avoid full-coverage blocks where possible, so the print breathes better than a heavy plastisol patch.
How does DTG compare with DTF for small runs?
DTG gives a softer hand and is best on cotton. DTF transfers work on blends and polyester and can be faster for multiple placements. For 100% cotton tees with detailed art, we usually recommend DTG, and we will advise honestly if DTF suits your design better.
Can I order one piece to check quality first?
Yes. Pre-production samples are available before any bulk run, and 1-piece print-on-demand is possible if you want to test a finished tee. Your account manager will confirm sample timing and arrange shipping when you send the inquiry.
Do you match specific brand colours?
DTG reproduces colour through a CMYK-plus-white process, so exact Pantone matching is approximate. If a brand colour is critical, we can print a colour swatch first, or recommend a screen print for that element while DTG handles the rest.
