Boxy & Drop Shoulder Tees

The Square-Cut Tee Streetwear Brands Keep Reordering

A boxy tee lives or dies on its proportions. Ours are cut wide through the chest, dropped at the shoulder and kept slightly short in the body, using a dense 240 GSM cotton that hangs instead of clinging. Private label from 50 pieces, with free pattern guidance on your fit.

Overview

Proportion is the product

Boxy tees are defined by geometry more than fabric. The chest is wide, the shoulder seam drops several centimetres below the natural shoulder line, and the body length stops around the hip. The result is a shape that falls straight from the shoulders and reads as deliberate rather than oversized by accident.

We build ours from 100% cotton single jersey at 220 to 260 GSM, with 240 GSM as the most common choice. That weight gives the body enough structure to hold its square outline, and a 1×1 rib collar, often 2 cm wide, keeps the neckline from stretching out. Shoulder seams are taped to stop warping across the hanger.

If you already have a fit in mind, send us a reference garment or a measurement sheet and we will match it. If you are developing from scratch, our team can supply a base pattern, adjust chest width and drop depth, and cut a pre-production sample before you commit to a bulk run.

Details that hold the shape

Engineered measurements

Chest width, shoulder drop, sleeve length and body length are graded together across sizes. That keeps the boxy proportion consistent from S to 3XL instead of looking like a regular tee scaled up.

Dense, heavy jersey

At 240 GSM the fabric feels substantial and resists clinging or rippling. It also gives screen and puff prints a stable surface, which helps large graphics sit flat across the chest.

Reinforced collar

A thick rib collar with a back neck tape holds its shape through repeated washing. Double-needle topstitching at the neck, hem and sleeve adds durability where heavy wear shows first.

Label-ready construction

We can sew custom woven neck labels, print inside tags and add side-seam or hem labels. The structured neck suits a woven label without puckering the rib.

01

Oversized chest and back prints

The wide body supports large graphics. We commonly produce back prints up to 35 cm wide with a small chest hit. Screen printing is ideal here, with plastisol or water-based inks and clean registration on heavier cotton.

02

Puff and high-density print

The thick jersey handles raised puff ink well, giving logos real dimension. We recommend limiting puff to bold shapes and pairing it with flat ink for outlines and small detail.

03

Embroidery and patches

Heavier fabric carries embroidery without puckering when we use a proper stabilizer. Small chest logos, sleeve hits and tackle twill patches all work well on this cut.

04

Garment dyeing and washes

Pigment dye and light enzyme washes give boxy tees a faded, lived-in tone. We test shrinkage and colour movement on a swatch first, so the final hand and colour are predictable.

Buyers

Who orders this

Boxy tees are a staple for brands that sell on silhouette. They sit in the core range of many streetwear labels and suit anyone who wants a relaxed, structured look. Buyers usually order them in several colours with one repeated fit.

  • Streetwear labels building a core boxy tee range
  • Merchandise teams for bands, creators and festivals
  • Retail buyers wanting a premium heavy-weight basic
  • Design studios producing capsule collections with private labels
  • Coffee shops and venues selling branded staff-and-fan tees
Durability

Care & durability

Wash cold with like colours and tumble dry low, or hang dry to protect the boxy shape and print finish. Avoid high heat, which can shrink even pre-washed cotton slightly in length.

Heavy single jersey is durable and tends to soften and relax well over time. Rib collars and double-needle hems are built to stay put, and printed graphics keep their definition when washed inside out.

FAQ

Boxy tee questions, answered

Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.

Yes. We work from a base pattern and can widen the chest, deepen the shoulder drop or shorten the body to your reference. We recommend a pre-production sample so you can try the exact proportion on a body before bulk.

Most customers choose 240 GSM for structure and drape. Going down to 220 gives a softer, lighter feel for summer, while 260 is closer to a heavyweight sweatshirt stiffness. We can send fabric swatches so you can compare.

We pre-shrink the cotton and test the fabric, so residual shrinkage is typically small. Garment-washed styles are more stable still. If length matters to your design, ask for our shrinkage test notes with the sample.

Yes. The 50-piece minimum applies per style and colour, and sizes can be split freely across that quantity. If you need smaller colour runs, ask about a combined colour option and we will see what is workable.

Boxy shapes are naturally unisex, and many brands sell them across the board. We can adjust the size chart so the S and M fit women's measurements comfortably, and add a size-specific label for your retail listing.
