Why length control matters on a crop
On a standard tee, a centimetre of length difference goes unnoticed. On a cropped tee it changes the whole garment. We set crop length as a fixed measurement from high point shoulder, usually between 48 and 58 cm depending on your target wearer, and grade it carefully so each size lands in the same place on the body.
Fabric choice shapes the finished look. A 180 to 200 GSM combed cotton jersey gives a clean, slightly structured crop. Adding 3 to 5% elastane improves recovery and suits a fitted style, while a 220 GSM heavier cotton supports a boxier, streetwear-led crop with a wide body and short hem.
Because cropped shirts expose more hem, construction details show. We use a flat coverstitch hem, a stabilized shoulder seam and a ribbed or self-fabric neckband, so the shirt looks finished from every angle. Our team will send a measurement spec for approval before cutting the sample.

Graded crop length
We grade body length by a fixed proportion rather than just adding or removing a centimetre per size. This keeps the crop looking intentional on both small and large sizes.
Neat coverstitch hem
A flat coverstitch hem is cleaner than a raw edge and sits flat at a short length. We can also offer a raw-cut hem on knit fabrics that do not fray, for a deliberate edgy look.
Stretch where needed
Cotton with a little elastane hugs without bagging, which suits fitted cropped tees. For relaxed fits we stay with pure cotton so the garment has more structure and less cling.
Sleeve and neck options
Choose a set-in short sleeve, a dropped shoulder or a cap sleeve, and a crew, scoop or square neckline. Each is patterned to suit the crop length, so proportions stay balanced.

Placement for a shorter canvas
The usable print area on a crop is smaller. We place graphics higher, usually 6 to 8 cm below the collar seam, and scale artwork to the shorter body so it does not collide with the hem.
Rhinestones and embellishment
Light cropped jersey carries rhinestone and heat-set crystal artwork well when kept to a controlled area. We recommend a stabilizing backing for large designs so the fabric does not distort.
Embroidery on lighter weights
On 180 GSM fabric we use a lighter stitch density and a tear-away or cutaway stabilizer to prevent puckering. Small chest or sleeve embroidery looks especially sharp on a crop.
Print and label detail
DTG, DTF and screen prints all suit cropped tees. We can add a woven hem label or a printed neck tag, positioned so it does not ride up or show at the shorter hem.

Care & durability
Wash cold with similar colours and dry on low heat or flat. Cotton-elastane blends keep their recovery best when kept away from high heat, which can degrade the stretch fibres over time.
A cropped shirt has less fabric to lose, so avoid shrinkage by pre-washing samples when you test the fit. Our fabrics are pre-shrunk, and hems are sewn to withstand repeated washing without rolling or waving.

How do you set the crop length?
We agree a measurement from high point shoulder to hem, typically 48 to 58 cm, and put it on a spec sheet for approval. The sample is then checked against that spec, and the length is graded across sizes so each stays proportional.
Is cotton or cotton-elastane better for a crop?
Pure cotton gives a structured, boxy feel and takes prints cleanly. Cotton with 3 to 5% elastane gives a fitted, comfortable hold and better recovery. Many brands order both fabrics for different fits, and we can send swatches of each.
Can I get a raw edge hem?
Yes, on stable knit fabrics that do not fray, a raw-cut hem is possible for a deliberate look. It tends to curl slightly after washing, so we run a swatch test and show you the result before bulk production.
Will large prints fit on the shorter body?
Usually yes, but scale matters. We position artwork higher and resize it to suit the crop, then confirm in a mockup. Very tall graphics may need to be reworked, and we will flag that before production.
Do you offer extended sizing on cropped styles?
We can offer extended sizing up to 3XL on request, but the pattern needs a separate grade so proportions hold. Mention this in your inquiry so we can plan the spec and sample correctly.
