Faded, Lived-In Tees With a Heavier Garment-Washed Hand
Vintage washed tees are finished after sewing, so the fabric softens, fades and settles into a worn-in look that new shirts cannot fake. We garment-dye and wash heavier cotton, then print or embroider with the finish in mind. Order from 50 pieces with colour approvals along the way.
- Garment-dyed, pigment faded
- 220 to 260 GSM heavy cotton
- Soft, broken-in hand
- 50 pc minimum, free samples plan
A finish you build into the garment
A vintage wash is a process, not a style label. After the shirt is cut and sewn, we tumble it with enzymes, pumice or pigment dye so the fibres relax and the colour shifts unevenly. The result is a faded tone and a soft hand that suits graphic prints and heritage brand looks.
We start from 100% cotton at 220 to 260 GSM, because heavier jersey survives washing better and fades more attractively. Pigment dye sits on the fibre surface, so colours like washed black, faded sage, dusty rose and bone fade at the edges and seams, giving natural variation across the garment.
That variation is part of the product, and we manage it with a colour-approved lab dip and a pre-production sample. Shade will vary slightly between batches, so we recommend ordering the full quantity in one run. We also test shrinkage after washing, so size charts reflect the finished garment.

What gives the wash its character
Pigment dyed after sewing
Garment dyeing colours seams, labels and fabric together for a uniform base with natural fade at stress points. Pigment particles lift unevenly in the wash, which creates real vintage variation.
Enzyme-softened hand
An enzyme wash breaks down surface fibres and removes loose fuzz, so the cotton feels broken-in from the first wear. The shirt does not need months of laundering to soften.
Pre-shrunk by process
Because the garment has been washed and tumbled at temperature, shrinkage is largely done before it reaches you. We confirm finished measurements so the size chart matches the final fit.
Faded, matte colour range
Washed shades have a muted, sun-bleached tone rather than a saturated one. We work from a palette of tested colours and will match a swatch reference where the process allows.
Decorating a washed tee

Print before or after the wash
Prints applied before washing will crack and fade with the shirt, giving a distressed look. Prints applied afterward stay crisp. We advise which route suits your design and run a test piece.
Water-based and soft-hand inks
On a soft, enzyme-washed surface, water-based and discharge-style inks give a flexible, vintage feel with less plastic hand. They also blend into the fabric, matching the faded tone.
Embroidery on washed cotton
Embroidery sits well on heavier washed jersey with the correct backing. We often digitize slightly lower stitch counts so the thread does not feel harder than the softened fabric.
Labels and aged finishes
Woven labels, tear-away prints or a washed-in printed tag complement the look. We can also add distressing details such as a light hem fray or neck stitch break on request.
Who orders this
Vintage washed tees are a staple in lifestyle, heritage and streetwear lines that want a lived-in look. Brands buy them for authentic character and a premium handfeel, with lighter marketing needs because the garment sells itself on touch and tone.
- Streetwear labels releasing faded graphic and logo tees
- Heritage and workwear brands wanting a worn-in basic
- Band and tour merchandise teams chasing a retro feel
- Boutiques stocking premium seasonal colour drops
- Creative agencies producing gift packs with vintage-feel shirts
Care & durability
Wash cold, inside out, and tumble dry low or hang dry. Because the shirt is already pigment dyed, a small amount of colour may release in early washes, so wash separately the first time.
Heavy washed cotton is durable and will keep softening. Natural fade increases gradually, so your shirt will keep developing character without weakening the construction.
Vintage washed tee questions, answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
Will every shirt look exactly the same?
Not exactly. Garment dyeing and washing creates natural variation in fade between pieces, which is part of the appeal. We keep variation within an approved sample range and recommend ordering each colour in a single production batch.
How do you control the colour?
We make a lab dip and, where needed, a full wash sample for your approval. Pigment dyes shift after washing, so we match to your swatch where possible and show the washed result before the bulk run starts.
Can I get a more extreme faded or acid look?
Yes. Stone wash, acid wash and heavier bleaching give more contrast and mottled texture. We usually recommend heavier 260 GSM fabric for stronger washes, because lighter jersey may weaken. A test piece confirms the look.
Do prints crack on washed shirts?
Prints applied before the wash will crack and soften deliberately. Prints applied after the wash stay clean. We help you choose based on your design, and run a test so you see the effect before committing.
Why is the lead time slightly longer?
Garment washing and drying add steps to production, so we plan 12 to 15 working days for bulk instead of the shorter end of the range. Your account manager will confirm exact timing once colours and decoration are approved.
