Stitched Texture That Printed Tees Cannot Match
Embroidery patchwork tees combine thread, twill, chenille and woven patches on a sturdy cotton base. We build them on 220 to 260 GSM jersey so the stitching has a stable surface to sit on. Order from 50 pieces, with digitizing and mockups handled by our team.
- Stitch, twill and chenille options
- Heavy 240 GSM cotton base
- Digitizing and mockups included
- Low minimums from 50 pcs
Texture as the main design feature
With embroidery patchwork, the decoration is the product. Thread density, stitch direction and patch edge finishes give a tactile, premium look that a flat print cannot match. We combine direct embroidery with applied patches, so a single shirt can carry satin-stitch lettering, a chenille crest and a woven badge.
Jersey needs support to carry that much thread. We build these tees on 220 to 260 GSM cotton and back every embroidered area with a cutaway or tearaway stabilizer, selected for the stitch count. That prevents the puckering and waviness that appear when heavy embroidery is sewn straight into lightweight knit.
Patches add another layer of options. Woven patches hold fine detail and small text, twill patches suit bold lettering and team marks, and chenille gives a raised varsity look. Our team will recommend the right combination, produce a digitized proof, and send a physical sample before we run the order.

Craft details that make the difference
Stabilized embroidery
Every embroidered area gets a stabilizer matched to stitch density and fabric weight. This keeps the surface flat and the lettering sharp, even after repeated washing.
Mixed patch layouts
We combine chenille, twill and woven patches in one layout, balancing weight so the shirt does not pull to one side. Placement is tested in a mockup before stitching begins.
Clean edge finishing
Patches can have merrowed, laser-cut or heat-cut edges. Merrowed edges give the classic raised border, while laser-cut edges suit fine detail. We select the edge for the artwork.
Premium perceived value
Stitched shirts feel more considered than printed ones. Brands often use embroidery patchwork tees as anchor pieces that justify a higher retail price within a capsule.
Embroidery and patch options
Send your logo, patch ideas and quantities. We will return a digitized proof, mockup and quote. Minimums start at 50 pieces, with a pre-production sample before bulk.
Direct embroidery
Satin stitch, fill stitch and 3D foam embroidery are all available. We digitize your logo or lettering, test stitch it and adjust density. Minimum letter height is usually around 5 mm for legible results.
Chenille and varsity patches
Chenille letters on a felt or twill base give a classic collegiate look. They are heavier than other options, so we recommend the 240 to 260 GSM base and a reinforced stitch around the border.
Woven and twill patches
Woven patches suit detailed logos and small text, while twill patches work well for bold block letters and numerals. Both can be sewn on, and for lighter garments we can offer heat-seal backings.
Combined with print
Many designs pair an embroidered chest element with a printed back graphic. We plan the two methods together so thread and ink do not overlap awkwardly and the garment hand stays balanced.
Who orders this
These tees suit buyers who want a crafted look and are ready for a higher unit cost than a print. They often appear in premium streetwear, collegiate, club and corporate heritage ranges where the quality of the stitching signals the quality of the brand.
- Streetwear brands building premium embroidered capsule collections
- Schools, colleges and alumni groups wanting varsity-style shirts
- Sports clubs and societies outfitting members with crests
- Corporate teams ordering refined branded staff shirts
- Heritage and craft brands that sell on visible workmanship
Care & durability
Wash inside out in cold water and avoid high heat. Hang dry or tumble dry low to protect patches and embroidery, and avoid ironing directly on stitched areas.
Machine embroidery is highly durable and outlasts most printed decoration on cotton. Chenille and applied patches are stitched at the border and are built to withstand regular washing when cared for properly.
Embroidery patchwork questions, answered
Straight answers to the questions buyers ask us most. Anything missing? Send an inquiry and we will reply within one business day.
What artwork do you need for embroidery?
A vector logo is best, but we can work from a clear high-resolution image. We digitize the file ourselves, send a stitch proof and adjust it. Very fine lines or tiny text may need to be simplified for thread.
How many patches can go on one shirt?
There is no fixed limit, but weight and balance matter. Three to five patches is typical. We check the layout in a mockup and may recommend a heavier base fabric if the shirt carries a lot of applied material.
Is embroidery suitable for lightweight t-shirts?
It can be, but results are better on 220 GSM and above. On lighter fabrics we reduce stitch density and use a lighter stabilizer. For heavy chenille or large fill areas we advise moving to a sturdier jersey.
Do you charge a digitizing fee?
Digitizing and mockup support are part of our free design service for typical orders. Your account manager will confirm any exceptions for very complex multi-patch layouts when you send the inquiry.
What is the minimum for custom patches?
Many patch styles can run at 50 pieces, though some types such as custom woven or chenille patches may have their own minimums. We confirm the exact figures during your quote so there are no surprises.
